Little Venice of Colmar

The historic centre of Colmar is just a 15-20 minute walk (3-5 minutes by car) from Les Maraîchers hotel and restaurant. The opportunity to discover all its treasures:

  • Little Venice: half-timbered houses lined up along the quaysides, boats and canals transport you into an extremely romantic atmosphere
  • The Maison des Têtes: in the town centre, this Renaissance house has 106 sculpted heads on its facades
  • The Koïfhus: a former custom's post built in the 15th century and the oldest local public building
  • The Unterlinden Museum: this museum houses a large collection of paintings and sculptures representative of art of the Rhineland. Among its masterpieces, do not miss the famous Issenheim Altarpiece by Matthias Grünewald.
  • The Bartholdi Museum: the famous creator of the Statue of Liberty was from Colmar and the town pays tribute to him in a museum devoted to his work and located in the house where the artist was born. At the entrance to the town, a replica of the New York statue welcomes visitors.
  • The Toy Museum: rediscover your childhood! This museum presents an impressive collection of old toys.
  • The Museum of Natural History and Ethnography: you will find out everything there is to know about the local fauna and flora and travel around the world.

Alsace Wine Route

The Alsace Wine Route, its typical villages, its wineries and estates

By car, as well as on foot, by bicycle or by motorcycle, make your way along the Wine Route, 170 km of joy that stretches from Marlenheim in the north to Thann in the south, between the Ballons des Vosges and the sun-drenched hillsides, with the medieval castles watching over you.

Be sure to stop in some of the most typical winemaking villages in the Region: for example, Ribeauvillé, Riquewihr, Kaysersberg, Turckheim and Eguisheim. Behind their ramparts, you will fall under the charms of the flower-covered streets and the pure Alsatian ambience!

For Tourism:

  • Ecomuseum of Alsace in Ungersheim (30 km away): an Alsatian village dating from the start of the 20th century, a museum, activities, events, and more. Immerse yourself in the history of Alsace!
  • La Cité de l’Automobile (national motor museum) in Mulhouse (40 km away): discover the Schlumpf collection, the most beautiful one in the world, and, in particular, its great many Bugattis
  • Memorial Museum - Le Linge 1914-1918 (26 km away): on this battlefield, you will find, in particular, a museum that retraces the events of the First World War. Memorial tourism is very well developed in Alsace: also pay a visit to the Hartmannswillerkopf (Vieil Armand, 43 km away) where there is a memorial to the battles of 1914-1918.
  • The Maginot Line: many sites along the current border of Alsace bear witness to this defensive line, such as bunkers, fortifications, batteries, etc. From Colmar, make your way to Neuf-Brisach, Kembs, Hatten, Schoenenbourg Fort, and more.
  • Medieval castles: a must, Haut-Koenigsbourg Castle is just half an hour from Colmar (30 km). Also, do not miss a visit to the remains of Hohlandsbourg Castle (13 km away), the three Castles of Haut-Eguisheim (16 km away), the three Castles of Ribeauvillé (24 km away)… Most of these remains can be visited on foot (waymarked footpath).

For sport:

  • Ammerschwihr golf course (13 km): between vineyards and forests, tackle the "mountain" course. On the programme, 18-hole course, 9-hole pitch & course; 9-hole putting course, practice range, pro-shop.
  • Hiking: from Colmar, set over the Ballons des Vosges Regional Nature Park. The paths are maintained and waymarked. Suitable for all levels. Ask at the hotel reception for details.
  • Winter sports: downhill or cross-country skiing, snowboard, sledging, snowshoe, dog sleds, Les Vosges is suitable for all types of winter sports! In particular, make your way to the resort of the Lac Blanc (about 30 km) which, in the summer and winter, offers many thrilling experiences: slopes for all levels, ski schools, and more, and, when the weather is fine, the resort is ideal for mountain bike  enthusiasts: bike park, free ride, north shore, and more.
  • Cycle touring: Alsace has some 2,500 km of cycle paths. Three EuroVelo routes pass through the region and lead beyond the borders, rivers and mountains.
